Local Comic Shop Day was created as a way to celebrate the uniqueness of physical comic book stores. Most of the products we sell are available elsewhere as well, but we wanted to celebrate what comic book stores have to offer: advice, community and selection.
So LCSD was created last year. ComicsPRO members went to the publishers and asked for unique items that we could sell only in actual physical comic book stores (not online). Last year was interesting, a first attempt at things always are. This year there are a lot more unique items, statues, toys even records.
Now many of the items are limited to one or just a few. Part of the deal is that we can’t hold items or pre-sell them. The idea is to get people into stores on this day.
I will be opening at 10:00 (I don’t want to force people to get there early). I am also instituting a 1 per customer policy on the limited items, so that the first person in the door can’t purchase everything. That’s not fair and certainly not the spirit of the event.
