FCBD 2012 Wrap Up

Wow! That’s all I can really say. For 9 straight hours, I scanned comics, trades and stuff, swiped credit cards and made change. My assumption is that everyone got what they wanted. I didn’t see much of the other room. There aren’t many books left. I ordered more than ever before and it still wasn’t enough of many titles. Crazy.

I do apologize for everyone having to stand in line. I really was going as fast as I could.  Kind of funny breaking down the numbers. I did 253 transactions. When divided by the 9 hours I was open, it comes to a transaction every 2.13 minutes for the entire day. That’s unreal.

I heard there were hot dogs outside and there were runs to the store for more.

I saw Chad Cicconi doing sketches out of the corner of my eye a couple times, so I hope everyone got what they wanted there as well.

Crazy crazy crazy day.  Thanks to everyone who came out and to every one that helped out, as I was not much help to anyone aside from the counter. Thanks to all who dared man the grill. Apparently entertaining the griller was required at some point to receive a hot dog.

I will post pictures if anyone took any.

It absolutely amazes me that some stores don’t participate in Free Comic Book Day, or barely do. I know one store that actually closes this day and a customer was sent by the Toonseum to a downtown store only to find it closed. They then came to see me. I will always take customers other stores don’t want.

I view FCBD as a thank you to all of my customers and a welcome to new ones. Have some free books. Have a hot dog and a pop. Here’s some stuff on sale if you’re interested. Not participating seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Does it cost money? Sure. I spent over a grand on FCBD books (sadly, they’re not free to me) and it still wasn’t enough. I completely forgot about the FCBD stickers and tattoos (darn it). But I look forward to it every year. Its not often that the store is packed and there is a line at the counter for 9 hours. I may have to come up with another plan for next year.

Again, thank you to everyone who came out. It really means a lot to me.

Hopefully I will be recovered by Wednesday for Not Free Comic Book Day.

  1. Just a suggestion. Take it as you wish…. Employees and helpers should be in costume next year. And at 2 hour intervals do a re-enactment of some sort.

  2. My son and I had a great time! It was our first time stopping in your store and we will definitely be back. Keep up the great work.
