Reviews in a New Format

Mr. Degnan’s Gradebook week of July 20, 2011

AVENGERS 16:                                                B

The interview style of writing employed by Bendis does not allow for suspense or surprise.  Great action scenes with the Hulk by Bachalo.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN 506:                        A+

A very meaningful Fear Itself tie-in.  Hilarious last page, Tony Stark at his finest (or worst?).

HULK 37:                                                        C

Nothing new in regards to Fear Itself from this tie-in, just seeing events from a different point of view.

UNCANNY X-MEN 541:                                A-

This Fear Itself tie-in makes the Juggernaut truly scary.  Gillen writes Cyclops the master tactician very well.

X-MEN 15:                                                        B+

Average conclusion to a great story arc by Chris Yost for this otherwise lackluster book; too bad he won’t be writing the next issue.

X-FACTOR 222:                                                A

Peter David can tell a great story.

MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. WOLVERINE 2:        B

Logan is one of the few not affected from a virus that turns humans into cannibals.  Take a guess as to how he reacts.

BATMAN 712:                                                B

Dick faces off against three of Batman’s oldest foes, Falcone, The Riddler, and Two-Face.

FLASHPOINT: WONDER WOMAN 2                A+

In case you didn’t hear, Flashpoint is a hit and Wonder Woman is a bad a** conqueror.

Dan Degnan is a High School English Teacher and Coach but more importantly a comic book enthusiast.  He currently reads the majority of Marvel titles and most Batman books.  He will be trying quite a few DC books after the relaunch so DC will be appearing more frequently in his reviews.

  1. I would have switched the grades for Iron Man and Hulk, but at this point I automatically dislike any book with the Fear Itself cover treatment. However, it was nice to see Sir Ian McKellen in the pages of Iron Man. I was beginning to think that Josh Holloway and Nicole Kidman were the only two celebrities that Salvador Larocca referenced.
