As I’m sure you’ve seen all over the interwebs, it sure looks like Marvel is bringing back the X-Men. We’ve seen promo images for Iceman, Weapon X, Jean Grey, Generation X, Cable and then, just yesterday X-Men Gold and Blue.
Now this is really really good news. Since, what, Battle of the Atom, the X-books have kind of fallen into malaise. Wolverine is gone, Cyclops is gone, Professor X is gone. There has been no real focus for the X-line. Extraordinary is an odd collection of characters lead by Magik. Uncanny is the bad guys and All New is the young guys (who should have gone back in time long ago). So there’s been no real MAIN X-book. The Apocalypse events going through all the books to tie-in with the movie was met with a sold yawn.
So I am thrilled to see the X-Men becoming a focus for Marvel again. X-Men were THE thing growing up.And same for a lot of you. Blue and Gold teams are a recognition of that. But….. Brief Saturday morning rant….
It says Spring 2017. Its not in the upcoming November Previews. So at the earliest it will be in the December book for February shipping. But that’s not really Spring. So they may not be coming until March or April. So why are they promoting it now?
I get the idea of getting the info out there. But right now its just images. And then later there will be more info. And then I’ll be ordering it. But then it will still be 2 months before they ship. People are excited about it now! But will they still be as excited in 5 or 6 months? A whole lot of books and events are going to happen between then and now.
This was something to tease once Inhumans vs X-Men had started, hinting at a possible end result (ie the return of the X-Men to prominence, maybe the return of the Inhumans to space. And the end of the Deadly Cloud).
I am always happy to see Marvel promoting stuff beyond their movie and TV stuff. But they always seem to start promoting too early. I have no answers for customers. I can’t really put people down for these things because I have no real way to order them in my system yet (the books don’t exist yet).
So, I am thrilled to see Marvel once again seeming to make the X-Books a priority. I just worry they are doing it too early in relation to the books coming out.
