Wolverine 10

A blood thirsty Wolverine finally confronts those responsible for sending him to Hell, Red Hand.

THE GOOD
Wolverine finally kicking ass in the real world.  Wolverine has been in hell or possessed by a demon throughout this entire book.  Last issue, he finally took control.  His first step was killing Mystique (doubt she’s really dead).  Now he is exacting his revenge on the Red Hand.  Its nice to see the savage Wolverine in action rather than the tamed down fur ball currently found in the Avengers or X books (not counting X-Force).  Its also nice to finally understand the motivation behind the Red Hand.  Loving the art too.

THE BAD
The bad guys The Red Hand is sending in to fight Logan.  They seem a bit underwhelming for the world’s best killer.  A guy who kicks rocks?  An S&M freak that licks blood?  Could we not have some villains with a little more firepower?  Maybe someone from Logan’s past?  I was really hoping that Aaron would have returned Sabertooth to the world after Logan’s stint in Hell.

THE UGLY
The pacing of this story.  Its been 10 issues and we finally understand the motivation behind The Red Hand.  I understand the need to keep readers coming back for more by not revealing everything, but 10 issues and a .1 is a bit much.  Personally, I am ready for something new.

Will this arc come to an end soon?  I hope so, because Jason Aaron is a talented writer who is capable of crafting more good stories for everyone’s favorite mutant with claws.  I am not saying this arc has been bad; I’ve enjoyed it alot actually but after 10 issues, its time for something new.

Incredible Hulks 630

Greg Pak’s legendary Incredible Hulk run, and the series itself, are coming to an end with the conclusion of this arc.

THE GOOD
Lots of villians!  AIM, Tyrannus, Red She-Hulk, Wendigo, and lots of other blasts from Hulk’s past.  No shortage of people for Hulk to smash throughout this arc.  Pak is really writing Red She-Hulk with a no holds barred attitude.  Its easy to hate her despite knowing she is really Betty.  The $2.99 pricetag with Marvel is a nice bonus too.  Also, this issue is a good place to jump on if new readers want to see the end of an epic series.

ThE BAD
The “wishing well.”  AIM’s plan to turn Tyrannus’ Fountain of Youth into a wishing well seems a bit far fetched even for comics.

THE UGLY
The potential let down.  I don’t expect it because Pak has truly done some great things with The Incredible Hulk.  Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, and even Fall of Hulks were some of the best stuff I’ve ever read.  But the series has lost a bit of steam lately; the epic feel is almost gone for me.

I hope Pak wows us all with his grand finale, but I am skeptical after reading parts of this issue.  No matter what though, I think Greg Pak deserves everyone’s applause after the series comes to an end.

Black Panther: The Man Without Fear #519

The Panther is stalked by the world’s most dangerous hunter, Kraven.

THE GOOD
The action.  This book has never been short on the fighting and its not different in this issue.  Kraven vs T’Challa in the streets of Hell’s Kitchen is a fun ride.  I enjoyed the art as well, but  Francavilla is better but Palo does nice work with the feel of Hell’s Kitchen.  And a thumbs up to Marvel for $2.99.

THE BAD
T’Challa’s continued insistence on doing things alone in order to atone for his failures in Wakanda.  Enough is enough dude, especially when your hot wife wants to see you.

THE UGLY
Piranha Boy.  The name speaks for itself.

I have enjoyed the Panther run up to this point, but I don’t think I can continue when T’Challa becomes “The American Panther.”  A ridiculous out of character idea in my opinion.

  1. Agreed on Wolverine. Just because you split it into separate parts doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel like one big story. Not bad but I hate to see a book focus on one thread for almost a year. cough cough superman
