Note for Wednesday – Podcasting and Wednesday Delivery

Wednesday Delivery

Since January, I have been getting the new books in on Tuesday and been able to check them in and get them sorted and on the shelves well in advance of you all showing up on Wednesday to buy them.  Because of the holiday, this week we are back to the Wednesday madness of waiting for UPS and then rushing like crazy to get everything out.  So, please be patient with me tomorrow.

In-Store Podcast Wednesday

I have been toying around with doing podcasts.  The couple that I did were really just test runs to see if I could figure out how to record something and actually get it online.  What I want to do is record some of the discussions that occur here in the shop.  I bought a fancy recorder so that I could record a group of people.  But I have yet to test it in a “real life model” (me and the kids sitting around the kitchen island doesn’t really count)

So, late tomorrow (6:30ish), I am going to have a kind of planned bull session to record.  Sean Wheatley and I chatted for about an hour late last Wednesday and we both agreed that it would have been a great podcast, so we decided to kind of set something up.  I really wanted to do it Thursday so we could include the new Fear Itself and Flashpoint books, but I have to head out at 5:00 tomorrow, so it wouldn’t work.  This will also let me tweak any potential problems so that the Fear Itself/Flashpoint discussion has a better chance of being usable.

I don’t want it to be too formal, but I thought it would be good if I had a bit of an outline prepared so that there isn’t a lot of “Um, what should we talk about next…”  Of course this could all go out the window.  Who knows?  That’s what may make it fun.

So, if you are at all interested in BSing about comics in the store and don’t have a fear of having your voice and opinions put out there on the internet, stop on by late Wednesday.  If nothing else, it should be interesting.

Itinerary:

Fear Itself & Flashpoint

– General impressions of both so far.  How have the Fear Itself tie-in issues worked for you?  I don’t want to include any of the books that came out Weds only in case some in attendance have not read them.  (I am anticipating some people coming later to get there books because of this and I don’t want them worried about speed reading them in order to discuss)  I am not worried about making the podcast spoiler-free, but I don’t want to spoil stuff the day it comes out.

DC Potential Line-wide Relaunch

– I had a fun discussion on my Facebook page about this, so I thought it might be fun to rehash.  Remember going in that it is all a rumor by the king rumormonger in the biz.

What comics have you like recently that you want more people to know about?

– Aside from the output of the big two, most of my titles sell less than 10 copies.  What books are you really enjoying that you want to give a shout out to

Same thing for Graphic Novels

– What book did you read recently that really impressed you?

On the flip-side what books have let you down?

– While it may hurt business, I am going to adopt the Brian Hibbs stance and call crap crap.  Several books that I was looking forward to really let me down recently and I want to vent as much as you guys do.

And please feel free to add anything to this list.  Shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I’ll add it.  I just like the idea of having a game plan going in to it.
