Flashpoint Primer

I am going to do my best not to spoil anything here and just give a brief overview of Flashpoint.  I think it has a lot of possibilities and should be the hit of the summer.

Basic premise (this is summarizing both Flash #12 and Flashpoint #1) – Professor Zoom, the Reverse Flash, came back in time and killed Barry Allen’s mother.  This has been haunting Barry.  Reverse Flash gets powered up and is more powerful than ever.  For some reason, he cannot kill Barry Allen, but he is committed to making Barry’s life a living hell by messing with his friends and loved ones (ie, killing his mother).  So he is apparently the cause Flashpoint.  Barry falls asleep at his desk and when he wakes up everything has changed – in a Flash.

Now, it does seem a bit like Marvel’s Age of Apocalypse where Legion went back in time and killed Professor X and that changed the present.  Apparently, Reverse Flash has gone back in time and changed something and it has had repercussions through to the present.

Overall, the first issue was pretty cool.  And I am looking forward to the tie-in mini-series.  There is a lot that they can work with here.  The last page reveal is going to lead to a VERY interesting Batman story that Batman fans are not going to want to miss.

  1. You’re crazy. Did you read the first one? Did you see the Batman reveal at the end? You’ll want it. At the very least you’ll borrow it from me regardless if you want to or not. I’m bringing it down next time I see you.

    • I agree, Donnie. And knowing that Azzarello and Risso are doing the Batman mini immediately make that one a must read. I like the idea of a story with a militant Aquaman and a Amazon Wonder Woman. I know all the minis and one shots won’t be great, but I hope DC is stepping up on this one. They set the table really good with #1. I hope they follow through.

  2. Its OK. not a really big Flash guy. But im looking forward to the Batman tie ins should be good.

And lets not forget about the CANTERBURY CRICKET!!!!!
