I just found out that Mike Deodato will be up from Brazil visiting in the area next week and is going to be kind enough to come by the store. He will be next here Wednesday from 5-7pm. If that isn’t a Christmas present, I don’t know what is.
Mr. Deodato is currently drawing Secret Avengers and is about to take on New Avengers. He has drawn everything from Wonder Woman to Hulk. From Wikipedia:
“Deodato became famous in the North American comic book industry for his work with writer William Messner-Loebs on Wonder Woman. After his Wonder Woman project he had a short stint as the penciller of The Mighty Thor, where he worked with writer Warren Ellis, and later drew Glory for Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Studios at Image Comics and Maximum Press.
While his style in the mid-90s was highly reminiscent of Jim Lee, he has recently changed to a more simplified, photo-realistic and sometimes moody style. His first work with this new artistic identity was The Incredible Hulk, written by Bruce Jones. Since then, he has worked on the Doctor Strange spin-off Witches and became the regular penciller of Amazing Spider-Man and The New Avengers. Deodato then took over as regular penciller for the Marvel title Thunderbolts with issue 110, once again collaborating with Warren Ellis. Deodato then became the regular artist for the Dark Avengers ongoing series which came out of the conclusion of Secret Invasion. He is now the regular artist on the series Secret Avengers written by Ed Brubaker which debuted in May 2010.”
So please make plans to stop by, grab your copy of Secret Avengers #8 (that just happens to come out next Wednesday) and say hi. There may even be cookies involved.
Also, David Campiti, author of Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics will be there as well. Come down, talk comics and get stuff signed. Did I mention Christmas cookies?
