Some Quick Reviews 11/2/10

Read a little bit in between bouts of NHL11 this weekend and finishing the October Order.  Here are some quick reviews.

Incognito Bad Influences #1

Good stuff, especially if you had read the first series.  I do wish it had come out sooner, as there was a lot I had forgotten that wasn’t clear as I was reading, like who Zoe Zeppelin was.  But still good stuff and I will keep reading.  It did have the best recap I’ve seen – “Zach was a super-villain living in Witness Protection.  Lots of bad stuff happened.  You should just buy the trade collection to catch up, really.”  Well said

Captain America #611

I felt like this book is finally getting somewhere, but at the same time it seemed to be a lot of whining.  “You didn’t tell us!” seemed to be all Hawkeye was yelling.  Seemed a little overly whiny.  And now we get to have the fun of a trial for someone who was under mind control at the time of his crimes.  Gonna be interesting to see the legal theories thrown out.  Hopefully he won’t be banished like Green Arrow.  OK, but not a top of the reading pile any more.

Secret Avengers #6

I must start with an admission.  I picked up a huge run of Master of Kung-Fu from a dealer “Fill a box for $25” at a convention a long time ago.  I love the character and that book (please make it an Essential, Marvel).  So I am very pre-disposed to like this book, and I do.  Shang-Chi + new secret ancient weapon guy + retrn of Fu Manchu + Deodato art + Brubaker writing = Good Stuff.  A good jump on point too, because it really doesn’t tie into the previous arc (but I would highly recommend getting issue #5 as it was a stand alone with delicious Aja and Lark art)

Avengers #6

OK.  This one made my head hurt.  I don’t understand the point of it.  To bring Killraven and some mystery Iron Man tech device to the present?  It seemed like simply a tool to set something else up.  Not the best way to relaunch your “Big” title.  And the art was spotty at best.  Style and quality changes page by page.  I don’t know if I will continue to read this title.  The addition of Red Hulk isn’t really pumping my nads.
